Bl. Pope John Paul I (Aug. 26,
1978 to Sept. 28,1978)
Quotes On
The Importance Of Eucharistic Adoration
Called
the smiling pope, his
reign as Pope of 33 days, from August 26, 1978 to September 28, 1978, is among the shortest in papal history.
The year of 1978 was in fact a year of three popes. Pope Paul VI died in
August of 1978, Pope John I was elected in August and died in September of
1978 and Pope John Paul II was elected in October 1978. Pope John Paul I remains
the most recent Italian-born pope, the last in a succession of such popes that started Clement
VII in 1523. During the conclave that elected him he expressed his wishes to
his fellow Cardinals
not to elect him as
Pope, but felt an obligation to accept the Papacy after they elected him.
He is the first Pope to have a double name (in honor of the two popes who
proceeded him) and the first pope to add the regnal number "I" to his name. Here are some of his quotes on the importance of Eucharistic Adoration in
our lives:
Sept. 27, 1978 - Pope John Paul I General Audience (Source: Vatican website –

"God is too great, he deserves too much from us for us to be able to
throw to him, as to a poor Lazarus, a few crumbs of our time and our heart.
He is infinite good and will be our eternal happiness: money, pleasure, the
fortunes of this world, compared with him, are just fragments of good and
fleeting moments of happiness. It would not be wise to give so much of
ourselves to these things and little of ourselves to Jesus."
